Program Notes: | I wrote Autumn Songs, settings of short poems by Walt Whitman, for a dear friend of many decades, the soprano Jean Blair. The poems were chosen with Jean's wonderful character in mind and also as a memorial to her son John Edwin Blair, who was a trained singer with a clear and beautiful tenor voice. I have arranged the poems and their settings in order to tell a story. |
