Program Notes: | Twelve pages for string quartet is dedicated to Aurora Manuel and is a further development of ideas found while writing the Walsh Sonata and Duncan's Cove. The materials used in writing Duncan's Cove for piano (derived by chance methods using auto license plate numbers) were notated here in these parts, but the four players are completely independent if each other. It seemed to me perfectly just that a piece made up of essentially four solo meditations should be written for a medium notorious for its homogeneity and social togetherness. |
