| Program Notes: | Summer was originally commissioned by the Akron Public Schools for the 1997 May Festival. Uncharacteristically, due to production difficulties I wasn't able to deliver the materials on time, and Gradual Process was substituted for that performance. In April 2024 I discovered the first proof of the score and saw that there were serious improvements to be made, including a completely new, shorter last section. The final version was completed on June 22, 2024. In the event that saxophones are unavailable, their essential notes are cross cued in other instruments. |
