Program Notes: | night and starlight was written in July 1998 for performance by the University of Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra that autumn. My aim was to write something lyrical and evocative, yet easy to prepare on little rehearsal time. It is paired in my mind with Twilight Air for violin and piano - both works recall summer for me - and night and starlight is inscribed for Vernon Shepherd who is also fond of that time of year. |
